Best Painting Award - God and Soldier

It was a real pleasure to be at the Mall Galleries for the Armed Forces Art Society annual exhibition, then … stand by … surprised and delighted to be presented with the Best Painting award by BBC’s Kate Adie for my God and Soldier. Always good for morale. This large pencil/pastel drawing was purchased by a private collector at the event.

The initial idea for this piece was triggered by reading somewhere that a significant percentage of the homeless are ex-servicemen. I felt compelled to illustrate this in some way and to respond to this information in the only way I feel I can, by drawing or painting. July 2016
